Let's face it - we all need a mentor in our life. As Christians, we definitely need someone to mentor or disciple us. Discipleship is the process of learning to love and follow Jesus, becoming more like Him in our attitudes and actions. It usually occurs in a relationship with a mentor.
There is a dire need in the Body of Christ for discipleship!
Christianity has turned into a literal hot mess - all about the number of attendees on Sunday morning, how much money is coming in, performances on stage, elevating the super apostle/worship leader/pastor/prophet, ear tickling/feel good "sermons", cliques & elitism, no fivefold ministry operating in churches, having altar calls for salvation but never following up with the people, casting out demons but never following up with them, formulas & manmade strategy instead of the leading of Holy Spirit, and don't even get me started on the super mess of people being put in leadership positions when their whole home life is in shambles, as well as all of the hidden sins. PHEW!
So, yes, I'd say we need discipleship.
How do we go about this? Several ways:
Get a strong in the faith, trusted Christian friend. Someone who will have your back, not afraid to call you out when you are going down a wrong path, champion you, bring out the gold in you, point you to Jesus always, challenge you to go deeper in the Word & to fulfill your God given destiny, your prayer partner.
Ask a leader or pastor if they could mentor you or hook you up with someone that can. Always ask Holy Spirit for wisdom/discernment in this. Look at the fruit of the person before asking them to mentor you. Are they following the whole Bible? Operating in the real Holy Spirit? Is their own life in order?
Join a Bible study or prayer group. Sometimes God will not lead you to have a discipleship one on one with someone, but in a small group. A good, godly, in love with Jesus & His Word, fruits of the Spirit abounding group, can be a lifeline. You all disciple each other and there's a network of support that can cover every corner.
Join an online mentorship. Ask Holy Spirit to lead you to a real deal, Bible believing, Holy Spirit flowing, fruits abounding online group. Always test the spirits and the fruit. You don't want to join something that is about the money or where the leader of the mentorship is an idol, etc. Make sure they always, always, ALWAYS point to Jesus. God led me to an online mentorship back in spring 2022 and I'm still in it to this day! I've grown so much and God has used it in so many ways, it's still blowing my mind. If you are looking for a mentorship with honor, integrity, transparency, order, fire of Holy Spirit, preaching of the Word, operating in Holy Spirit's leading & fivefold ministry, points you to Jesus, fans the flames of your own giftings/callings, calls you up higher, challenges you, grows you, then check it out: online mentorship. I even have a page dedicated to it here.
So the bottom line is, we were never made to do life alone. We NEED discipleship. In today's world especially, with so much mixture and confusion, we have got to be refined and set on fire for God. Whether you believe it or not, we are in a spiritual war and we can't be weak believers. Period. So let's pray, shall we?
Lord, I pray over every single person reading this - if they don't have someone in their life who is mentoring, discipling, speaking life into them... give them direction. Show them who is to be their prayer partner, pastor, in person group or online group. I break off all isolation, disappointment, loneliness, and fear off of them NOW, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! I bind up the lies of the enemy saying that they don't need anyone, in Jesus' name. I speak life, hope, restoration, wisdom, healing, and boldness over every one of them, by the power of Holy Spirit. Lord, cut off all ties between them and anyone who is the wrong mentor in their lives, and reconnect them to people You want them to be connected to! Breathe Your hope and life into each heart and guide them down the path to real Holy Spirit filled, Jesus loving, Bible living, strong relationships in Jesus' name. Thank you, Lord! Amen!
