Fear is a liar. A straight up liar. Fear comes from the enemy, the father of all lies.
As believers, God did NOT give us a spirit of fear. The Bible is super clear about this:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - 2 Tim. 1:7
I felt I was bombarded with fear since I was little. Over the years, God has freed me, layer by layer. It came through many different ways:
Renewing of my mind: as I read scripture, listened to teachings, read books, etc., Holy Spirit removed the lies I was believing and replaced it with His truth. As the lies were replaced, fear's grip in my life got weaker and weaker.
Deliverance: straight up casting out demonic spirits of fear, torment, panic, and whatever else works with fear. Up and out. (Yes, deliverance is very real and I will do a post in the near future on this.)
Walking through it: sometimes God would have me do things to face things and power through it with His help. Just one example: over a decade ago, I was led to stand in my pitch black living room (freaked the heck out of me since I could feel things in the dark, felt like they were closing in around me; nasty crippling fear) and pray in tongues. I was like, um, what?! But I obeyed. I knew 100% that it was Jesus asking me to do it and He would help me. I don't know how long I was standing there, but at first it was so terrifying, I thought I was going to die. As I was praying in tongues (prayer language from the Holy Spirit, more on that in the future), the fear was shrinking and eventually left. I was standing there in perfect peace. I had broken through & it was life changing.
According to 1 John 4:18, there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. I grew up hearing this, and it didn't really make sense. Until I had a revelation as an adult. Noone can have perfect love, so how can we be free from fear? Perfect love comes from God, as God IS love! (1 John 4:8) So God Himself casts it out. As we abide in His presence, fear can't be there. Period. Darkness has to flee in the presence of light. It's a fact.
So instead of fear, we get love, power, and a sound mind.
Love = Father God, for He IS perfect love poured into our lives (through the cross & Holy Spirit's abiding presence - Romans 5:5)
Power = Holy Spirit, for His power casts out fear & enables us to no longer be victims of fear
Sound mind = we have the mind of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 2:16) & can make good choices. Through Jesus, we are delivered, rescued, revived, and protected. Put on that helmet of salvation! (Eph. 6:17) Focus on what it good & true! (Phil. 4:8) Renew your mind! (Romans 12:2) Take every thought captive! (2 Cor. 10:5)
When we lock eyes with our Papa God, allow Holy Spirit to move in our life, and renew our mind with scripture to operate from the mind of Jesus, fear has no choice but to flee. We then operate from a place of faith & power. Let's goooo!
Jesus, I pray for every person reading this. Renew their minds! I pray the blood of Jesus & release the anointing of Holy Spirit over each one of you now. Fear, you have to bow at the foot of the cross! Holy Spirit, blast through each person and deliver them from fear in the mighty name of Jesus! I pray for the sweet honey anointing of God to pour over each heart and heal all wounds, all trauma, and every opening where fear has gotten in. Amen!
