What is truth?
We see this question echo in movies, books, universities, coffeehouses, discussions everywhere. Every religion tries to define it (they usually tell you it is coming from inside of you or from the universe).
The whole world is asking, but many do not want to hear.
Truth is:
Jesus - "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life." (John 14:6)
Bible - "Your word is TRUTH." (John 17:17)
Holy Spirit - "The Spirit is TRUTH." (1 John 5:6)
So when we want to know what is real or what is false, we need to verify it through these three sources. When these three are in agreement, we have arrived at truth.
When you have a spiritual issue or any concern, ask these three questions:
Does it represent Jesus as He truly is?
Learn who Jesus truly is. And watch for balance - the world will define Jesus in other ways, slightly tweaked. One extreme is the you are all going to hell, yelling fire & damnation, instilling fear/religion into people so they get saved. The other extreme is only preaching God is love, stroking egos, okay to sin, we're not perfect, see you in heaven.
Is it in harmony with the scriptures?
Check everything with the Bible, even the sermons on Sunday, Bible classes, teachings, podcasts, the latest hip quote on instagram from your favorite preacher/teacher. If it doesn't settle right, check the scriptures.
Does Holy Spirit bear witness to it?
If we would have done this over the years in the church, we would have missed a lot of the error that has crept in. First John 5:6 says that Holy Spirit bears witness. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 says that the gospel doesn't come in just word only, but backed by the power of Holy Spirit. Have reverence for Him! When we lose reverence for the Spirit of truth.....check out Acts 5:3-5. We need the fear of God back in the church for real.
Remember: Holy Spirit = Spirit of TRUTH and satan = father of all LIES.
Let's get back into truth. Let's be real and authentic. God is calling us up higher. Truth will dismantle the lies we're believing, even about ourselves.
I pray for every person reading this: that Holy Spirit will reveal all of the lies you're believing....about yourself, about God, about things happening around you. He is Truth and He will set you free! I pray for true authentic encounters with Holy Spirit while you're awake and in your sleep. Thank you, Jesus, for renewing minds! Weed out all the lies we've believed and wash us with Your truth! Amen.
